Kumram Bheem Asifabad/Mancherial: Parts of Kumram Bheem Asifabad and Mancherial district registered light rains, hailstorms coupled with gales, damaging houses and mango orchards on Tuesday. The showers disrupted the supply of power for quite a long time.
According to sources, iron and cement sheet roofs were blown away by the unseasonal rains, hailstorm and gales at Kondapalli village in Penchikalpet mandal. Around 30 houses were affected by the showers and hailstorms. About 25 electric poles collapsed and large quantities of paddy at procurement centres were drenched, causing losses to farmers.
Village Sarpanch Upasi Sanjeev requested Revenue Department authorities to carry out a survey to assess the damage and to extend relief to the affected families. He stated that tribal and financially weak families had lost shelter. Locals requested the officials concerned to sanction compensation at the earliest.
Meanwhile, several villages in this mandal and neighbouring Bejjur, Dahegaon, Koutala and Sirpur (T) mandals of this district recorded showers and hailstorms. Bellampalli, Mandamarri, Thandur mandals too received light rains and gales. Roofs of a few houses were damaged by the gales. Supply of power was restored by evening.
