Karimnagar: District Principal Judge and District Legal Services Authority Chairman MG Priyadarshini said untouchability was still being practiced in remote areas. According to SC, ST Atrocities Prevention Act, practice of untouchability was a crime, she said while emphasized the need to educate people to eradicate this horrendous practice. It was the responsibility of every citizen to work to bring a positive change in the society.
As part of Azadika Amrit Mahostav, National Legal Services Day was celebrated on the district court premises on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, the district judge informed that criminal attitude has increased in the society and emphasized the need for extensive awareness programmes to be conducted to reduce it. Informing that the people have been apprehensive of deposing against criminals, the district judge wanted to educate people to eliminate fear among the public. Crime rate would be controlled when only criminals were punished through imprisonment.
Emphasizing the need to reduce land disputes, she opined that court cases would be reduced when only people were educated about Acts. It would be better for society if the people settled small issues at their level.
Collector RV Karnan opined that it was necessary to educate people to settle small issues at their level and emphasized the need to educate the people about issues wherein they could approach courts. People should be awakened by educating about Acts and rights.
DLSA Secretary B Sujay, ACP G Madan Lal, Karimnagar Bar Association Secretary Jupalli Satyanarayana, judges, additional judges and advocates were participated in the meeting.
