UoH launches inter disciplinary ‘open elective’ course

Hyderabad: The first interdisciplinary teaching programme under the Institution of Eminence (IoE) project of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) will be on offer as an open elective starting August 4.
Designed and coordinated by Prof. Aloka Parasher-Sen, Professor Emerita in the Department of Sanskrit, School of Humanities, “We Live, You Live and The Mute ‘Other’: Negotiating Human – Non-Human Habitations and the Wild” is a four credit course on the “non-human”, the UoH said in a press release on Wednesday

It will look at the geological, the text and written word, the visual in historical perspective and the oral as memorised, cutting across the disciplines of earth sciences, language and archival studies, history, art history, anthropology and folklore, the UoH said.
The course will be team-taught by faculty from Humanities and Social Sciences. There will be lectures on archaeological landscapes, concepts in Sanskrit texts, narratives and story-telling, artistic representations, colonial interventions and folk imaginaries around human- non-human relations in pre-modern South Asia, it said.
All UoH final year graduates and second-year Masters students’ can opt for the course OE101 after completing their registration for the Monsoon semester by August 2 on the University e-governance portal, it said.
The final year graduation or second-year MA students of any university in India or abroad can submit their applications online through the link https://forms.gle/pnYC6KyyZ73qq7yx9. The applications of other students will not be accepted after 5 pm on July 28, it said.
The classes will begin from August 4 every Monday and Wednesday from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm IST. For more details, visit the website http://sanskrit.uohyd.ac.in/.
