UoH to host lecture on ‘Journey of TB and Covid: Lessons for Future Challenges’
Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Principal Adviser for the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme at the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and former Chief Scientist of the World Health Organization, will deliver the lecture.

Hyderabad: The School of Life Sciences at the University of Hyderabad (UoH), in collaboration with the Institution of Eminence, will host a distinguished lecture titled ‘Journey of TB and Covid: Lessons for Future Challenges’ at School of Life Sciences Auditorium on Monday.
The lecture will be delivered by Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, the Principal Adviser for the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme at the union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and former Chief Scientist of the World Health Organization.
Dr. Swaminathan will be honored with the Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA) Lifetime Achievement Award at the event. This recognition is bestowed for her outstanding contributions to global health, specifically her pivotal role in coordinating the scientific response to the Covid-19 pandemic and setting up Covax, aimed at equitable vaccine distribution.
The lecture will focus on the intersecting challenges posed by tuberculosis and Covid-19, drawing from Dr. Swaminathan’s extensive experience in medical research and public health policy. The event aims to equip health professionals, policymakers, and researchers with vital insights to enhance preparedness for future public health challenges.
