Lakhimpur Kheri: A leopard was captured in the Belrayan forest range in Dudhwa buffer zone here, an area which has seen big cat attacks in recent times.

Belrayan forest range officer Bhupendra Singh told PTI that the leopard was captured on Sunday night in a cage installed at a farm house near Murtiha village.

The captured leopard has been brought to range headquarters for medical examination and further course of action.

In view of rising movement of leopards in the area, a number of cages had been set up at sensitive spots to avert any untoward incident, he said.

Forest teams are regularly patrolling and keeping a close watch over the big cat movements, he said.

The forest department is capturing leopards after recent attacks on villagers in the area.

This is the fourth leopard to be captured in the Belrayan range since August 2.
