Hyderabad: After missing previous deadlines, the Congress government has now set June 2027 as the new target for completing the Uppal-Narapally flyover.

Roads & Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Thursday assured the Legislative Council that the long-delayed elevated corridor would be completed and thrown open to the public by June 2027 under all circumstances.

The Uppal-Narapally flyover, a Central government project on NH-163, was launched in 2018 at an estimated cost of Rs.425 crore. It was scheduled for completion in three years. However, the project was stalled due to severe operational hurdles.

Komatireddy Venkat Reddy had recently assured that the project would be completed by Dasara 2026. That deadline was also missed.

The Minister now said the Congress government had taken proactive measures to clear the bottlenecks and accelerate the construction. Explaining the delay, he said the primary contractor had approached the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). A secondary agency brought in midway to execute the project also failed to deliver.

The Congress government, with the intervention of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, had since coordinated with Gayatri Projects to resume and fast-track the work, he said.

“This is not an ordinary flyover. It is a massive elevated corridor serving as a vital lifeline,” the Minister said, highlighting its strategic role in connecting Hyderabad with Warangal, AIIMS Bibinagar, Bhongir and Jangaon.

He added that BT road renewals and surface repairs under the flyover had been completed, while round-the-clock construction was currently underway.

A high-level review was conducted three days ago with the Chief Engineer and officials of the National Highways Regional Office to streamline logistics and ensure timely payments to the contractor, he said.
