ASP YVS Sudheendra inaugurating the leaf plate making unit at Dantanpalli in Tiryani mandal on Tuesday.
Kumram Bheem-Asifabad: Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) YVS Sudhdeendra urged the tribals to achieve economic empowerment by taking a cue from members of self-help groups (SHGs).
He was speaking after formally inaugurated ‘Kumram Suru Vistarakula Sangham,’ a natural leaf plate manufacturing unit at Dantanpalli hamlet under Ullipitta Gram Panchayat in Tiryani mandal on Tuesday.
This is the second such unit sponsored by Chirag Foundation, a USA-based voluntary organisation in association with Saaketh Aluri, an NRI, under the aegis of the police department. A similar unit was set up by the foundation at Gundala village in Tiryani mandal in July. Plates are made using leaves of Palash or the flame of the forest (Butea monosperma).

He advised other tribals to draw inspiration from 20 women who were involved in making the eco-friendly plates and to create jobs on their own.
The ASP further said the unit would offer livelihood to women belonging to Kolam, a particularly vulnerable tribal group of not only Danthanpalli, Pangidi, Buggaguda, Jendaguda, Govarguda, Chopodi and Koudammevad villages. He was all praise for Tiryani Sub-Inspector P Rama Rao for playing a vital role in the establishment of the unit for the sake of the tribals.

They thanked SI Rama Rao for being the driving force in establishing the facility. They said that Tiryani police were going an extra mile by organising a slew of community outreach programmes, besides protecting law and order.
