Siddipet: Well-known expert on biochar, Dr N Sai Bhaskar Reddy explained the multifaceted benefits of biochar, particularly its ability to purify polluted water bodies by adsorbing harmful toxins and heavy metals, thus protecting aquatic life.
Addressing the one-day workshop “Biochar Applications in Aquaculture” organised for students of the government degree college in Siddipet on Saturday, Dr Reddy highlighted biochar’s role in improving water quality, fostering a healthier environment for fish, and increasing fish production.
He emphasised the potential of biochar in managing drainage water and its use as a sustainable solution to mitigate pollution in aquatic ecosystems.
Students actively engaged in hands-on sessions, learning about the practicalities of biochar application and its impact on sustainable aquaculture practices.
The event concluded with a discussion on the broader environmental advantages of biochar in safeguarding freshwater bodies and promoting eco-friendly aquaculture.
