Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday termed elections to the Urban Local Bodies as political malice.

He said Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao made the State Election Commission to conduct polls of municipal corporations and municipalities fearing an adverse outcome in the Nagarjuna Sagar by-poll.

He said the ruling TRS party was fearing loss in the Sagar by-poll and it did not want any adverse impacts on the outcome of ULB elections.

Addressing party workers at Gandhi Bhavan here on Saturday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the State Election Commission has taken up the polls to municipal corporations and municipalities unmindful of surging Covid cases in the State. He also charged that the State Election Commissioner was not bothered about the Covid cases.

“Do we need elections now when Covid cases are rising in the state? Is there a need to stoop so low for political gains? It is shame on the officials to brazenly support the government,” charged Uttam Kumar Reddy.

He welcomed TRS leader of Paleru Assembly constituency of Khammam district Ramasahayam Madhavi Reddy into Congress party at Indira Bhavan.

The TPCC president exuded confidence that Congress party would win the elections to ULBs in spite of conspiracies of the ruling party and Nagarjuna Sagar by-polls.
