Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy held extensive discussions with Karnataka Minor Irrigation Minister NS Boseraju on Monday regarding technical aspects related to the construction of a proposed barrage across River Krishna.

The Irrigation Minister said preliminary discussions were held on the procedures to be followed to protect Telangana’s rights concerning irrigation and drinking water, besides addressing future requirements. “Proposals designed to provide a permanent solution to drinking water issues through inter-State coordination were placed before the Karnataka delegation,” Uttam Kumar Reddy said.

The Irrigation Minister said comprehensive discussions were held between the two States regarding the utilisation of Krishna waters. Measures would be taken for water utilisation in a manner favourable to both States. Following this, an agreement would be reached between the two States to safeguard mutual interests, he said.

The details of the discussions held between the two States would be presented to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, following which a collective decision would be taken, he added.
