Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday announced plans to divert Godavari waters to fill the Singur, Manjeera and Nizam Sagar projects.
The initiative was aimed to provide a permanent solution to Hyderabad’s drinking water woes and bring new agricultural areas under irrigation under these projects, he said.The Singur, Manjeera, and Nizam Sagar projects are all built on the Manjeera river, which is a tributary of the Godavari.
These projects are serving the irrigation, and drinking water needs besides facilitating flood control in the region. The Minister had a review meeting at Jala Soudha with officials on the status of the irrigation projects and lift irrigation schemes in erstwhile Medak district.
He also Minister directed officials to prepare proposals for the Peddireddy Palli lift irrigation scheme, estimated to cost Rs 660 crore. The minister said if all procedures were completed, the foundation stone for the project could be laid by the end of December.
The Minister also gave the green signal for the Karamungi lift irrigation project in Narayankhed constituency.
