Hyderabad: TPCC former president N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday said the Congress would support the farmers, who are cultivating paddy and fight with the government to protect their interests.
Addressing a press conference here, he found fault with Siddipet Collector P Venkatrami Reddy for giving warning to officials and seed sellers that they would be suspended, and shops closed even if one kg of paddy seeds were sold in the district.
“It is highly objectionable on the part of the Collector to say that he won’t even care the court orders,” he said, adding that it is not advisable to the Collector to speak in such a manner.
He advised officials not to put farmers in trouble by taking hasty decisions and requested authorities not to impose restrictions on farmers since 70 per cent of the people in the State were dependent on cultivation where majority of them are keen on paddy cultivation.
Since it has already declared minimum support price, the Central government should procure paddy with the same price. Referring to by-election in Huzurabad Assembly constituency, Reddy urged the people to support the Congress candidate Balmoori Venkat.
