Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy on Wednesday urged Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to treat railway employees working in Telangana State as frontline staff and administer Covid-19 vaccine to them.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, the Union Minister of State said the railway staff was rendering various services including shifting people to their respective destinations through Shramik trains and transporting essential commodities and other medical equipment to various States round-the-clock during the pandemic.

The staff was also playing a crucial role in emergency medical equipment apart from supplying oxygen through tankers. Realising the importance of services extended by the railway employees, the governments in Odisha, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and other States recognised them as frontline workers and issued instructions for vaccine administration to them.

“We request our Chief Minister to treat the employees of South Central Railway as frontline workers and administer vaccines to them,” Reddy said.
