Two killed, 19 injured as marriage party van overturns in Nirmal

Two persons were killed and 19 others injured when a van carrying a marriage party overturned after a tyre burst at Kondapur village in Nirmal rural mandal on Thursday. Seventeen others sustained minor injuries, while two remain in critical condition and were referred to RIMS, Adilabad.

Nirmal: Two persons were killed and 19 members of a marriage party sustained injuries when a van carrying them overturned after a tyre burst at Kondapur village in Nirmal rural mandal on Thursday.

Police said Laxman (60) and Tulasi Das (38), both residents of Echoda, sustained critical injuries and died while being shifted to a hospital in Nirmal town. Two more persons suffered serious injuries, while 17 guests of the marriage party sustained minor injuries when the van in which they were travelling overturned on the outskirts of Kondapur. The injured were immediately shifted to a hospital in Nirmal town.

The seriously injured persons were later referred to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Adilabad. The condition of the two was stated to be critical.

On receiving information, SP Dr Janaki Sharmila, along with her team, rushed to the spot and ensured that the victims were shifted to the hospital and received proper medical attention. She also enquired about the circumstances in which the accident occurred and instructed the police to take steps to prevent such road mishaps. Bursting of a tyre was said to be the cause of the accident.

The victims were travelling from Sonapalli village in Echoda mandal to attend a wedding in Armoor town of Nizamabad district when the accident occurred. Police registered a case against the van driver and took up investigation.
