Khammam: The Velugumatla Bhoodan Bhoomula Sadhana Samithi and the CPI (ML) Mass Line district committee have demanded that the State government give house sites to all eligible Bhoodan land displaced families.

Leaders of the organisations and around 200 displaced persons staged a dharna at the Collectorate and submitted a memorandum to Additional Collector P Srinivas Reddy here on Tuesday. They alleged that a majority of the 311 individuals to whom the government allocated house sites on March 11 were ineligible.

Speaking to the media, Samithi leader Satyanarayana Reddy demanded a re-verification of the names on the list. He insisted that the house sites should be allocated to around 400 genuine families that lived at Velugumatla since 2018. He alleged that officials had washed their hands off the matter after demolishing over 900 huts while issuing pattas to only 311 individuals.

More than 100 individuals who were given pattas had absolutely no connection to the Bhoodan lands in question. Around 140 poor individuals, who were genuinely eligible and whose presence was even recorded on video by revenue officials during the demolition drive were completely overlooked in house sites distribution, Satyanarayana Reddy alleged, adding that the government’s list of eligible beneficiaries had been manipulated to include numerous ineligible individuals. A re-survey has to be conducted to identify the real poor and justice should be served to all of them, he said.

The lists of ineligible and eligible beneficiaries were submitted to the Additional Collector. CPI (ML) Mass Line leaders CY Pullaiah and Avula Ashok, samithi leaders Koteswara Rao, Jhansi, K Nageswara Rao, M Nageswara Rao and others were present.
