Hyderabad: Emphasising the need for an increased green cover, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said people living away from the nature were affected with Covid-19, while those who were living with the nature were able to escape from the deadly virus. He appreciated the Green India Challenge initiated by Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar and its efforts in making plantation of one crore saplings under ‘Koti Vruksharchana’ a grand success marking the birthday of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

Rajya Santosh Kumar presented ‘Vruksha Vedam’ book to the Vice President at the latter’s residence in Hyderabad on Monday. On the occasion, Venkaiah Naidu recollected his childhood memories after seeing the slokas and scenic beauty of the pictures taken from Telangana, published in the book. He recalled how he roamed in jungles along with both his maternal and paternal grandmothers in his early days of childhood.

The Rajya Sabha Chairman took to Twitter and expressed his happiness over receiving the ‘Vruksha Vedam’ book and appreciated the efforts of Santosh Kumar for his novel initiative of adoption of reserve forests by individuals. “The book is a collection of shlokas from sacred Indian texts that inspire us to conserve mother nature and protect our environment. As mentioned on its cover, it reflects the glory of trees in Indian literature. I commend his attempt to remind people of their responsibility towards trees& the environment,” he added.
