Hyderabad: Venkat Reddy scored 20 points as Central Tax & Customs maintained a clean slate defeating Saints 66-52 in the third round match of the Level-I of the Hyderabad District Basketball Association’s Annual League Basketball Championship at the City College Basketball Ground.

Despite the loss, Saints have qualified for pre-quarterfinals. Central Tax & Customs started off well with Venkat Reddy using his height to telling effect to score from the paint and Bittu scoring through fast breaks assisted by accurate passes from Varma to take a comfortable 20 – 9 lead at end of first quarter.

In the equally contested second quarter, both the teams scored 18 points apiece with Rajat chipping in with two 3-pointers for Taxmen whereas Melvin and Agni combined well for Saints as the Taxmen led 38 – 27 at half time.

After the change of ends, Central Tax tightened their defense to restrict Saints to just seven points and scored 15 points through Rajat and Venkat Reddy to take a decisive 53 – 34 lead at end of third Quarter. In the final quarter, Saints tried to stage a comeback scoring 18 points through Abhishek and Melvin. But the lead was too high as Central Tax & Customs cruised to victory.

Result: Central Tax & Custom 66 (Venkat Reddy 20, Rajat 16) bt Saints 52 (Melvin 14, Abhishek 9, Agni 8).
