Hyderabad: Former Indian left arm spinner SL Venkatapathy Raju has been roped in by Oman as spin consultant for the World Cricket League 2, a tournament which forms part of the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualification process. The former Hyderabad skipper will be part of the Support Staff for this one-day World Cup qualifying league only.
Oman, who played in the qualifiers and hosted the T20 World Cup, are playing UAE and hosts Namibia that starts from November 24. Each team plays against each other twice.
“Since the points are very important in this phase of this game, the team wanted a spin coach so they asked whether I’m available. I have agreed for this tournament only,’’ said the 52-year-old Raju.
Former Sri Lanka captain Dileep Mendis is the head coach while former Indian pacer bowler Avishkar Salvi is the fast bowling coach. Raju will now join the Support Staff as spin coach.
“I had been to Oman in the past as part of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) programme. They have some lovely grounds and infrastructure. It is nice to assist a fledgling team like Oman,’’ said Raju
