Hyderabad: Members of the All India Veterinary Association (AIVA) and other affiliated associations representing veterinarians in the State on Wednesday wrote to Telangana State Veterinary Council (TSVC) and the State Veterinary and Animal Husbandry department seeking stringent measures against Lok Sabha MP from Sultanpur, Maneka Gandhi, for her alleged bad behaviour towards a senior veterinarian.

In the letter, association members alleged that Gandhi was disrespectful, menacing and even threatening towards the veterinarian. “We understand that parliamentary privilege is a legal immunity enjoyed by MPs only in the course of their legislative duties. Needless to mention that the said MP has abused the power beyond her legislative duties,” AIVA members said in the letter.

AIVA and affiliated organisations of veterinarians have urged the State Veterinary Council and Animal Husbandry department to initiate an enquiry. “There is a need to thoroughly investigate the ill-mannered and impolite behaviour of Maneka Gandhi in the current case as well as in the past cases. She must be made to apologise in a public forum for her behaviour to the satisfaction of the veterinary professionals,” AIVA members demanded.
