Hyderabad: A relative of the victims in the Shabad murder case has alleged that police negligence and failure to act on earlier complaints enabled the suspect to carry out the brutal killings.
Speaking to the media during the protest, a relative of the POCSO victim alleged that they had filed multiple complaints, nearly a month before the murders. However, they alleged that no action was taken by the police.
“We had already filed a case seeking his arrest, but there was absolutely no response. It has been one month since the complaint was lodged. About 15 days ago, the victim’s uncle also met the police and informed them that the suspect was roaming freely despite the case. Even then, no action was taken,” the relative alleged.
Holding the police responsible for the tragedy, the family member said the murders could have been prevented if the suspect had been arrested in time.
“This entire incident happened because of police negligence. They neither arrested him (Raj Kumar), nor questioned him. Had they acted on our complaint, three members of the victim’s family would not have lost their lives,” the relative said.
The family member also criticised the handling of the case by the local police station, alleging that repeated appeals for protection and action were ignored.
The remarks came amid continuing protests by the victims’ families and local residents, who have been demanding action against the police officials concerned and seeking accountability for the alleged failure to prevent the crime despite prior complaints.
