Hyderabad: Buoyed by their semifinal appearance in the recently-concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament, Hyderabad, under the leadership of Tanmay Agarwal, look to continue their good run in the Vijay Hazare ODI tournament when they take on Haryana in the Group C match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur in Mohali on Wednesday.
Hyderabad, surpassing the expectations, reached the semifinals with a fine show before going down against eventual champions Tamil Nadu in the semifinals. In captain Tanmay, Bavanaka Sandeep, Kolla Sumanth they have abundance of experience. To add to it, former Hyderabad Ranji captain P Akshath Reddy returned to the squad. In Thakur Tilak Verma, Rahul Buddhi and Ajay Dev Goud, the team has promising young talent. In the bowling department, CV Milind has been in super form. He emerged as the top wicket-taker in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament with 18 scalps to his name. All-rounders T Ravi Teja, spinner Tanay Thyagarajan provide good depth to the bowling department.
Talking to Telangana Today on the eve of their clash, captain Tanmay said the team is raring to go. “The team is high on confidence after the good show in the T20 tournament. We are very confident going into this match,” he said. Tanmay is also in fine form with the willow topping the batting charts in the T20 tournament with 334 runs in 7 matches. However, he looks to start this tournament afresh. “T20 tournament is done and I am not focused much on it. I am not feeling anything about it. I am focused on my next match. I want to do well and win it for the team. The team combination is very good,” he added.
Meanwhile, making a return to the State team, Akshath Reddy, who missed the last season owing to poor form, said he is determined to do well this season. “I didn’t play last season. I had a good outing before Covid period where I played Duleep Trophy and Board President XI. After those games, I didn’t have a good 2019-20 season. That was my first bad season in my 11 years of Ranji Trophy. I am really looking forward to this tournament. I want to do well and help the team win,” he said.
