Hyderabad: Hyderabad began their Vijay Hazare trophy campaign with a comfortable five-wicket victory over Haryana in their Elite Group C encounter in Mohali on Wednesday.

Electing to field first, Hyderabad rode on Thakur Tilak Varma’s 4/23 and T Ravi Teja’s 3/23 bowling figures to skittle out Haryana for a paltry 162 in 39.2 overs. Later, Tanmay hit an unbeaten 127-ball 77 to set up the chase.

All-rounder Ravi Teja set the tone scalping two wickets in three balls to reduce the hosts to 2/35. He first got the wicket of HJ Rana and then bowled CK Bishnoi two balls later. Tanay Thyagarajan then sent SR Chauhan back in the next over as Haryana lost three for 37. Tilak took three wickets in three overs as the Haryana middle order collapse. Only YR Sharma waged a lone battle with a 70-ball 68-run knock to guide his side past 150-run mark.

Chasing the total, Hyderabad were cautious in their approach. Both openers Tanmay and Akshath Reddy added 33 runs in 12 overs before the latter departed. Tilak Varma also returned soon without much. But Tanmay, with Kolla Sumanth, added 56 runs for the third wicket. Though Hyderabad lost Chandan Sahani and Buddi Rahul quickly, Tanmay made sure that Hyderabad reached home in the company of Tanay Thyagarajan (18 not out).
