Visakhapatnam: YSR Congress Party Rajya Sabha member Vijay Sai Reddy will undertake a 25-km ‘Save Vizag Steel Plant’ padayatra on February 20 in the city.

Announcing this here on Tuesday, Vijay Sai Reddy said it would begin in the morning from the Gandhi statue in front of the GVMC main office in the city as part of struggle to protect the steel plant achieved after sacrificing 32 lives.

“We opposed privatisation of the steel plant in the Parliament as well as outside.  In the past, late Rajasekhara Reddy as opposition leader had opposed privatisation of 50 public sector undertakings by Chandrababu Naidu. Now Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy is opposing it on the same lines,” he recalled.

Already the YSRCP MPs and MLAs took part in a dharna in front of steel plant to express solidarity with 13 trade unions and Jagan would convene a meeting of trade unions shortly on the burning issue, he revealed, adding that the Chief Minister had agreed to adopt a resolution in the Assembly opposing the Centre’s decision and already wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the need to save steel plant, he stated.
