Hyderabad: An elderly couple and their six-year-old grandson died after the car they were travelling in was hit by another car near Manneguda in Chengomul of Vikarabad district on Monday morning.
The victims were identified as Y Mallikarjun Reddy (60), wife Rajyalaxmi (56) and grandson Devansh Reddy, all residents of Saketh Nagar in Vikarabad. Police said the mishap occurred at 7.55 am, when the victims were proceeding from Kodangal towards Hyderabad. When they reached near Dharani Cotton Mill, one Mohd Ghouse, who was driving from Hyderabad towards Kodangal, lost control of the wheel allegedly after the axial rod broke.

“The car jumped the road median and crashed into the victims’ car from the opposite side. While Mallikarjun Reddy and Devansh died on the spot, Rajyalaxmi died in the hospital,” an official said, adding that their driver Santhosh Reddy, who was injured, was being treated at a private hospital in Hyderabad.
Chengomul police have booked a case for negligence causing death and injuries against Ghouse. The bodies were shifted to government hospital in Vikarabad.
