Medak: The villagers of Vallur in Narsingi mandal staged a rasta roko on the busy NH-44 demanding that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) build an underpass, to help the villagers cross the road safely.
Since the villagers were forced to cross the road quite frequently, braving the speeding vehicles, they said that many villagers have died in road accidents.
They further said that a good number of villagers have also sustained injuries. Since their repeated appeals to the concerned officials and elected representatives went unnoticed, the villagers took to the road, to register their protest. Since the NHAI was carrying out road widening works here, the villagers threatened to stall the works unless it built an underpass here.
Since the traffic came to a standstill on both sides of the road, SI Srujana convinced the villagers to withdraw their protest, assuring them to take the issue to the notice of concerned officials. It took a couple of hours for the police to clear the traffic.
