Villagers protest for road widening after Chevella tragedy
The villagers took out a rally and then had staged a blockade at two places at Chevella on the road demanding the authorities concerned visit them.

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at Chevella – Bijapur highway in Ranga Reddy district on Tuesday after local villagers staged a protest demanding widening of the road.
The protest follows a gory road accident on Monday evening in which four vegetable vendors were killed and six other grievously injured when a truck rammed into a crowd at the roadside vegetable market.
In the morning, the villagers took out a rally and then had staged a blockade at two places at Chevella on the road demanding the authorities concerned visit them. The local people also demanded ex-gratia to the families of the persons who were killed in the accident.
The police officials following the developments deployed additional police personnel in Chevella. The Special Operations Team and Armed Reserve contingent were sent to prevent any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, the road and buildings department officials started works to widen the Chevella Road. A team comprising officials’ traffic police, road safety, municipal, highway authorities and other department concerned visited the spot of the accident.
The transport department officials were asked to inspect the lorry and ascertain the reason that led to the incident.
