Villagers stage rasta-roko with empty vessels over drinking water crisis in Asifabad

Residents of CR Nagar and Madanguda villages in Kagaznagar mandal staged a rasta-roko, carrying empty vessels to protest the acute drinking water shortage. They blamed irregular supply under the Mission Bhagiratha scheme and demanded swift action from officials.

Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Residents staged a rasta-roko on a road by carrying empty vessels highlighting their acute drinking water crisis at CR Nagar and Madanguda villages in Kagaznagar mandal on Saturday.

Scores of women and men from the two villages blocked traffic briefly on the road bringing vehicular movement to a standstill.

They alleged that they were not receiving drinking water through Mission Bhagiratha scheme on a regular basis, causing severe hardship. They raised slogans against the state government and urged officials to resolve the issue promptly.

The residents withdrew their protest when officials assured them of resolving the problem within three days. They later submitted a representation to MPDO requesting him to take steps to resolve the challenge.

Jaundice-stricken youth ends life in Mancherial

A 29-year-old died by suicide as he was reportedly due to depression caused by his illness at Laxmipur village in Luxettipet mandal on Saturday.

Police said that Danapelli Venkatesh resorted to the extreme act by consuming a pesticide when he was disheartened after being diagnosed with jaundice six months ago.

He consulted a doctor and was undergoing treatment. However, he remained depressed and took his own life by consuming the pesticide on Friday night. Venkatesh was immediately shifted to a hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead. Rajaiah, father of the deceased, lodged a complaint. A case was registered and investigation is underway.
