Nalgonda: Tensions flared at the municipal office in the town as BRS party activists came under attack by Congress leaders, especially followers of Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, on Tuesday.
The BRS workers were protesting against the removal of flex posters of party working president K T Rama Rao, who was scheduled to address a ‘Maha dharna’ of the party in the town this morning against the failures of the government in fulfilling the promises made and guarantees given to the farmers in particular.
The protest was postponed as the police denied permission to the programme.
The situation escalated when Congress leaders Gummala Mohan Reddy and Municipal Chairman Burri Srinivas Reddy had a heated discussion with the BRS leaders led by former MLA Kancharla Bhupal Reddy.
The confrontation turned violent, with flowerpots being hurled by the Congress workers targeting the BRS activists.
The police remained silent spectators to the episode. They eventually intervened, forcibly arresting Bhupal Reddy and other BRS leaders.
An intense scuffle with the police and Congress workers left Bhupal Reddy unconscious, and he was subsequently shifted to Nampally Police Station.
