Hyderabad: Hyderabad Black Hawks captain Vipul Kumar said that his team would showcase a unique style of volleyball owing to their foreign coach in their ranks.
Speaking on the eve of their inaugural match against Kochi Blue Spikers scheduled for Saturday, Vipul said, “We are very fortunate to have foreign coach (Ruben Wolochin from Argentina) with us. We are training with the fast-paced game which suits the league. He changed our training style and developed speed in the game. Our technique is unique. Hopefully we get more time with him. We have a new style of play and it is a surprise for everyone. We have a lot of youngsters in the side and all are adapting well.”
Vipul also revealed that he was excited to lead the side. “It is a great feeling to lead the side. The team is very balanced. Leading the side is a challenge and I am looking forward to it. I feel I have more responsibility. We need to take the youngsters in our stride. Captain or not, the setter always has to lead the team on the court and I am used to it,” he added.

The 27-year-old Uttar Pradesh player said the league would do a world of good to the game in the country. “We are grateful for the league. It is a big boost to the game in the country. The youngsters, who are starting the game now, will get a chance to watch and learn a lot from the league. It is a great opportunity for them.”
Vipul, however, felt that they got less time on court for training due to the bio-bubble. “Training in a bio-bubble is a first for all of us. But we are happy with it. The only disadvantage is we get less time to practice on the court. Otherwise, it is good. We get a good amount of time to rest our body,” he pointed out.
Owing to Covid-19 restrictions, the league will be played behind closed doors without any spectators. The ‘setter’ felt that not having spectators in the stands will have a bit of impact on the game. “It is new for us. We never played in front of empty stands. It might look like practice but it doesn’t affect our game. We want to win the matches. But their presence will definitely motivate us while playing. It will boost our game.”
Speaking about his target, he divulged, “I want to give my best and use the opportunity to showcase our talent. The league provides us a great platform to show our game to many people.”
The league will be telecast live on SONY TEN 1 (English), SONY TEN 3 (Hindi), SONY TEN 4 (Tamil & Telugu) & SONY TEN 2 (Malayalam) channels.
