Hyderabad: America remembers the sobering impact of the twin towers attack 20 years ago on this day. Now, Maxar Technologies has shared a few stirring satellite images taken just days after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 – a day that changed America.
On that day, two planes, hijacked by al-Qaeda terrorists from Afghanistan, crashed into the twin towers in New York City. Another plane hit the Pentagon in Washington, DC, and a fourth plane crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
As the twin towers collapsed, nearly 3,000 people were found dead. Now, these images from that day remain forever seared into the minds of many Americans.
The 9/11 victims came from more than 80 nations. US President George W Bush stated, “It was an attack on the heart and soul of the civilised world.” Together, a coalition of nations initiated the War on Terror, with the goal of stopping the groups that orchestrated these and other attacks.
The tower is now rebuilt as a 9/11 National Memorial Museum.
