Mumbai: The Trauma and Rehab centre for stray animals was opened by the Virat Kohli Foundation and Vivaldis Animal Health at Madh, Malad in Mumbai.

In April this year, Indian cricket captain, Kohli announced that he is setting up two animal care facilities in Mumbai. An avid animal lover, the Indian captain credits his wife Anushka Sharma for making him see the difficulties faced by stray animals in Mumbai.

Anushka, Bollywood superstar and renowned animal activist, has lent her support on numerous occasions to animal welfare, and animal rights. Inspired by Anushka’s passion for animals, Kohli through his foundation is looking for opportunities to help stray animals.

The Centre will treat injured stray animals in the area, and a team of 10 experts will be in charge of running the operation, in collaboration with Vivaldis Animal Health, a leading Indian animal healthcare company founded by Kunal Khanna, a London Business School alum.

As a part of the initiative, a fully equipped Ambulance will be available at the centre for emergency calls. Additionally, it will provide medicines to support the stray animals at the centre.

“I admire Anushka’s dedication towards the welfare of animals, and I have drawn my inspiration from her. It is our dream to create a safer space for the stray animals of our city. We are excited to announce that the centre is ready, and hope to make a difference through this noble initiative,’’ said Kohli.

The Virat Kohli Foundation so far has primarily focused on supporting aspiring athletes from all over India. However, Virat is now looking to go beyond the sports arena and use his current associations and partnerships to create infrastructure and make resources available to those in need. VKF will now be setting up education, healthcare, and animal welfare projects.

Vivaldis Animal Health, founded in 2015, has quickly established itself as one the prominent pet health care companies in India, with presence across 60 cities and more than 2500 veterinary clinics and pet shops. They have a robust portfolio of in-house developed innovative solutions for pets as well as products in-licensed from global players in pet health.

“We announced our association with the Virat Kohli Foundation and Awaaz earlier on April 21 and the entire team has worked tirelessly to ensure we are ready with our first Trauma and Rehab centre just five months later. I am extremely grateful to Anushka and Virat for their steadfast support to stray animals, as we continue to build on our association, with many more initiatives in time to come. Vivaldis is committed to continuous innovation in the field of pet healthcare, while working towards building safe spaces for the not so privileged stray animals.” said Kunal Khanna, Founder and CEO of Vivaldis Animal Health.

And Awaaz Voice of Stray Animals, is a Mumbai based NGO working for the welfare of stray animals since 2017.

“We are grateful to Anushka and Virat for providing us with the opportunity to service animals. We also thank the Virat Kohli Foundation and Vivaldis for the collaboration. We look forward to carrying out our work with the same dedication as we have been doing since the inception of Awaaz” Said, Amit Pathak, Founder, Awaaz Voice of Stray Animals.
