Visakhapatnam: Sankar Foundation achieved yet another distinction of performing surgery on a one-month-old infant, first of its kind in the state. The child’s mother was delivered of the baby in INS Kalyani Hospital and the doctors recognized the problem of her baby not following torch light in left eye. The parents were shocked and the baby was referred to the Sankar Foundation by INSH Kalyani immediately.

The surgery was performed successfully at Sankar Foundation eye hospital by a team of doctors led by Dr. Suparna, specialist in paediatric ophthalmology.

If cataract is found in only one eye at birth, then surgery has to be done as early as possible. As the baby was tiny, anesthesia was also risk and explained to the parents.

After the3 successful surgery, Dr Suparna prescribed contact lens after one week and the parents were explained to close right eye (better eye) and allow the baby to use left eye (operated eye). Now, the baby is smiling and recognizing the parents and able to play with parents even when right eye is closed.

After attaining the age of 3 years, the child will be again operated for implantation of Intra Ocular Lens (IOL).

The parents were delighted at the child getting the vision in the left eye after the surgery and thanked the Sankar Foundation hospital authorities.
