Hyderabad: Smartphone maker vivo celebrated its 30th anniversary with the vivo Vision Launch Event & Imaging Grand Ceremony, where it unveiled its first mixed reality (MR) headset, the vivo Vision Discovery Edition, alongside a major upgrade to its imaging strategy.
The MR headset marks vivo’s entry into spatial computing and immersive technology. Developed over four years, the device weighs 398 g, making it 26% smaller than the industry average. It features a lightweight, ergonomic design, customizable light seals, and padding options for long-lasting comfort.
Running on OriginOS Vision, the headset enables natural “move-and-pinch” gesture controls, 1.5° eye-tracking precision, fingertip gesture recognition across 26 degrees of freedom, and a 175° vertical tracking range. Dual Micro-OLED displays deliver 8K binocular resolution, 94% DCI-P3 color coverage, and DeltaE<2 accuracy, producing visuals on par with professional cinema monitors.
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 21 platform, the device offers up to 2.5x GPU performance and 8x AI performance compared with the previous generation. The headset supports immersive entertainment, gaming, and productivity scenarios, including panoramic sports viewing and a virtual 120-foot theater experience.
At the same event, vivo announced a revamped imaging strategy to build a scenario-based ecosystem integrating night photography, portraits, telephoto, and video with new areas such as imaging security, health applications, and cross-device experiences. vivo reaffirmed its partnership with ZEISS, highlighting joint efforts to set new benchmarks in mobile imaging.
Hu Baishan, Executive Vice President and COO of vivo, said the anniversary was not only about looking back but also about “forging a path of passion fueled by technology and rooted in humanity,” committing to a century-long vision for the company.
