Visakhapatnam: The process to make Visakhapatnam as the Executive Capital began the moment the bill on decentralisation of administration was introduced in the Legislative Assembly, Municipal Administration minister Botsa Satyanarayana said here on Thursday.
Talking to reporters, he said some persons had gone to court on this in an attempt to delay the process. But the law would take its own course, and all hurdles would be crossed to provide governance from Visakhapatnam city, he clarified, adding that after COVID, the meetings could be held from anywhere.
Reacting to the comments of the opposition Telugu Desam Party on Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s visit to Delhi,he said that everytime the opposition alleges that he was going there to get the cases withdrawn against him. The TDP should give suggestions when he goes to Delhi, but it would not talk about issues in the state, he observed. “We are buying all the paddy from the farmers paying the highest remunerative price in the country,” he said.
On the criticism of the opposition over the hike in property tax, the minister said that the legislation to hike the tax was announced in the Assembly before the civic polls. In the past, the property tax was levied based on rental value, which gave scope for irregularities.
Now, the tax would be levied on property value –at 0.1 to 0.5 per cent for residential buildings and 0.2 to 2 per cent in non-residential category. The hike would not exceed 15 per cent under any circumstances, he stated.
He also said each household would be provided three dust bins and the clean Andhra Pradesh programme would be launched on YSR birth anniversary.
