Vizianagaram: The city police have arrested a notorious criminal and recovered from him 6.18 kg out of 8 kg of gold stolen from a jewellery shop near Clock Tower here early this week.

Informing this to media persons here on Saturday, Superintendent of Police Deepika M. Patil said that 8 kg. of gold jewellery was stolen from Ravi Jewellers by Lokesh Srivas of Kavarda area of the neighbouring Chhattisgarh state on February 23. “While he was in Vizianagaram prison here, Srivas came into contact with a person belonging to Srikakulam and made enquiries about the jewellery shops in the city.


He was released in October last year and returned to Vizianagaram in January and conducted recce at vulnerable areas. Apart from the theft at Ravi Jewelleries, he stole four tolas of gold from Pandu Jewellers on the same day. Earlier on Feb. 14, he stole Rs.1.4 lakh cash at CMR Shopping Mall here, and another Rs.50,000 last month from Padmaja Clinic. In all, he committed four thefts in the last two months.

There are as many as 11 cases against him in Chhattisgarh and Odisha,” she revealed.
