VRAs protest in front of Ministers’ quarters in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The road leading to the Ministers quarters here reverberated with “We want justice” slogans as Village Revenue Assistants (VRA) turned up in large numbers and staged a protest in support of their demands early on Tuesday.
Under the aegis of the VRA Joint Action Committee, many turned up at the Ministers quarters. Holding placards, they squatted on the road and demanded the government to address their issues.
The VRA Joint Action Committee is demanding the government to allot the jobs to the children of VRAs aged above 61. This demand was being made as per GOMs 81.
Though the previous BRS government approved the hereditary jobs allotment and issued government orders, the Congress government was denying the eligible aspirants their jobs, the protestors said.
There are over 3,700 such aspirants. Most of them hail from Dalit and other weaker sections.
“Since the last 15 months, We have been appealing to the government to consider our pleas but the government is not bothered,” they said.
The VRA Joint Action Committee members charged that when they wanted to submit a representation to the Revenue Minister in this regard, they were denied permission. As a result, they started sloganeering and squatted on the road.
