Visakhapatnam: Film actor and Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan blamed the ruling YSR Congress Party in the State for not bringing pressure on the Centre to stop privatisation of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
Addressing a public meeting arranged by the JSP to express solidarity with the ongoing agitation of the steel plant workers and trade unions against privatisation of the steel plant at the steel plant Kurmannapalem gate here on Sunday, he said that adopting resolution and writing letters would lead them nowhere and it was important that the YSRCP MPs and the State leaders take up the issue with the Centre.
“It pained me when I heard of the announcement that Vizag Steel Plant is being privatised. We met Home Minister Amit Shah and urged him not to privatise the plant. But I don’t have MPs or MLAs behind me. The only MLA we had was taken away by the YSRCP. Anybody will give me an appointment only when I have people’s support,” he stated.
He said the ruling party MPs were more interested in contracts and positions and did not show any interest to protect the steel plant which was achieved through the sacrifice of 32 persons.
