Telangana Prisons & Correctional Services is offering the public a supervised taste of prison life at Chanchalguda through its ‘Feel The Jail’ programme. Participants can wear jail uniforms, eat prison meals and follow daily routines for four to 24 hours

Hyderabad: Wear a prison uniform, surrender your phone, eat a standard jail meal and follow a prisoner’s daily routine.

Telangana Prisons & Correctional Services is offering the public a chance to experience prison life through its Telangana ‘Feel The Jail’ Experience, an immersive and supervised programme at the Chanchalguda Prison Complex.

Available till September 30, the experience allows participants to spend four to 24 hours following a structured prison routine. Once inside, participants must surrender their mobile phones, wear the provided jail uniform and use prison-style plates and glasses. They are also served the same standard meals prepared for the prison population.

The experience extends to the barracks, with different options depending on the duration and level of supervision. “Barrack 1 is exclusively for women with sarees provided as uniforms and separate closed washrooms for privacy. Barrack 2 allows individuals or groups of three or more. Barrack 3 includes a fan and washroom for overnight stays,” the Telangana Prisons & Correctional Services website states.

For those looking for a more intense experience, Barrack 4 is a high-security barrack with double security and enhanced supervision. Barrack 5 offers a controlled dark-cell experience, providing an isolated environment under supervision to give visitors an understanding of the conditions associated with such spaces.

The daily schedule includes physical training, yoga, meditation, parade, work assignments and vocational activities such as tailoring, agriculture and cleaning. Participants can also learn about prison rules, correctional procedures and rehabilitation practices under the supervision of prison staff.

While the four-hour experience costs Rs 500, eight hours costs Rs 750, 12 hours costs Rs 1,000 and the 24-hour experience is priced at Rs 1,500. Bookings can be made through the official website.

“The programme begins at 6 am and is open to those aged 18 years and above. Participants are expected to follow prison discipline, cooperate with staff, maintain cleanliness and participate in the activities,” the website states.
