Hyderabad: With the authorities taking up awareness and promoting use of face mask, noted social activist Azhar Maqsusi has come up with a unique idea to start a ‘Wall of Face Mask’ at Dabeerpura flyover in the old city.
The face masks are lined up on a specially created wall and passers-by can pick up a mask for free to stay safe from Coronavirus. Also, Between 5 pm and 7 pm, Maqsusi and his team will be engaged in free distribution of masks drive along the road.
“These are testing times and this initiative is a small contribution from me to create awareness on the use of face mask. Also, some people cannot afford to buy a face mask by spending Rs 10 everyday and they can get it here and use it,” says Maqsusi.
The idea of setting up the wall came after he noticed people not wearing the mask and moving on the roads. Sometimes the violators were hauled by the police and penalized for their laxity.
“I plan to set up more such walls in the city so that people have liberal access to face masks. Some could have forgotten to carry a mask or some might have the masks damaged in the course of use in the day. Such persons can just stop and pick up a mask here,” Maqsusi told Telangana Today.
Maqsusi is well known not only in Hyderabad but other cities including Bengaluru, Guwahati, Raichur, for the last nine years, he has been providing free meals for the poor and needy at different places in the city including hospitals. His tryst with social work started on 10 April, 2012 when he set up a camp at Dabeerpura flyover. Now, a few thousand people are provided food by Maqsusi and his team every day.
Eminent Bollywood personality Amitabh Bachchan had appreciated the work of Maqsusi during the episode ‘Aaj Ki Raat Hai Zindagi’. Bollywood actor Salman had also appreciated his work in his television show.
