Wanaparthy: Madnapur police in the district have set an example to others by performing the final rites of an elderly woman, who died on Friday night. Eighty-year-old Shakuntala was living a tenement in Madnapur mandal. She was alone and had no family members to support her.

Following ill health, she died on Friday night and her distant relative Lakshmi was informed about her death but due to the pandemic villagers did not lend a helping hand to cremate the body. Noticing the plight of Lakshmi, Sub Inspector Tirupajji and his staff carried Shakuntala’s body for cremation and as per Hindu traditions, her body was cremated, according to reports.

Residents of Madnapur appreciated the police for their gesture and support. Along with SI Tirupajji, trainee SI Rajashekhar and other staff, including Ravi Kumar, Kurmaiah, Shiva Reddy, Samulu, Kalam, CDC Director Balakrishnaiah, extended their support in the cremation.
