Wanaparthy: A Sub-Inspector of Police, Shaik Shafi from Wanaparthy Rural Police station, was placed under suspension for allegedly maintaining an illegal affair with a married woman, a resident of Kothakota.
Though, the woman’s husband caught the SI red-handed at his home in Kothakota on November 18, it came to light on Friday after the video in which the SI being bashed up went viral on social media platforms. Shafi started maintaining contact with her when he was working as SI in Pebbair. Since then he used to speak to her regularly over phone.
From Wanaparthy, Shafi used to frequently visit the woman’s home, after her husband left to his work. Despite, local residents warning Shafi to mend his ways, he did not budge. Growing suspicious, the woman’s husband on November 18, informed her that he was going out of town and waited for an opportunity to catch him red-handed. Soon after Shafi entered his house, the woman’s husband along with his friends, surrounded him and bashed him up, before informing the higher officials.
The woman’s husband lodged a complaint with the police officials, following which Shafi was placed under suspension on November 19, besides a case was also booked, said Wanaparthy SP K Apoorva Rao. Shafi is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital at Hyderabad.
