Hyderabad: Notorious burglar Bathula Prabhakar was arrested and remanded by the Gachibowli police on Sunday for allegedly attempting to kill a policeman by firing at him.
Prabhakar was taken into custody by a team of Cyberabad CCS police at Prism Bar in Gachibowli on Saturday night. When he was being taken into custody, he had fired at a policeman and two others, injuring them. The policeman, Venkat, head constable of Cyberabad Central Crime Station was injured in the leg.
The police overpowered Prabhakar and took into custody and seized three country made firearms, 451 bullets, cash Rs. 62,000 and other articles from him.
Prabhakar allegedly was involved in 23 cases in the Telugu States in the last two years. He had escaped from police custody while being taken to court by PM Palem Police of Visakhapatnam. So far, he has been arrested seven times in over 80 cases.
DCP Madhapur, Vineet Kumar G said Prabhakar had procured the weapons from Bihar as planned to use against some persons whom he had grudges since the time he was lodged in a jail in AP.
“In the city, he was staying at a friend’s place and planned to commit burglaries at a few places. A special team was keeping a tab on his movement following some property offences in the city,” said the official.
The police produced him before the court and sent to judicial remand.
