Warangal: Task Force police along with AJ Mills’ Colony and Intezarganj police arrested 10 persons from two gangs including two ‘RTA brokers’ for allegedly cheating vehicle owners with fake vehicle insurance certificates. They also seized Rs 4,46,000 cash, three laptops, two desktops, four printers, five motorcycles, 10 cell phones, 433 vehicle registration and licence card, rubber stops of the Road Transport Authority (RTA) and fake insurance documents.

The arrested have been identified as MD Shafi of Kondarparthy, Sayyad Jahangir of Kashibugga, Pennala Rajesh of Puppalagutta, Vankidi Nikhil of Lenin Nagar, Mamidi Raju of Siva Nagar, B Nagamalli Siva Kumar of Kashibugga, Allado Rajesh of Shayampet (Hunter Road), Gundeboina Srikanth of Vangapahad, Keshoju Raj Kumar of Gudi Bandal and Ballani Suman of Madannapet of Warangal and Hanamkonda districts, said Warangal CP Tarun Joshi at a press meet here on Tuesday.

“The accused were working as the RTA broker near the RTA office in Warangal. They used to help the vehicle owners to get their insurance renewed, vehicle registration and registration of the vehicles by offering some ‘charges’. But in order to earn more money, they have started cheating the gullible vehicle owners who come to them to renew their insurances of the vehicles, and started issuing fake insurance certificates in the name of the insurance companies using some Apps and special software. They have even added QR codes to the documents with some Apps. They used to collect Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000 from each vehicle owner,” he said, adding that the fraud had come to light as one of the vehicle owners contacted insurance for a claim as his vehicle was damaged in an accident.
