Warangal: A three-member gang gained entry into a posh apartment on Waddepally 100 feet road and decamped with nearly 2 kg gold ornaments. Though this sensational crime took place on Monday night, it came to light on Tuesday morning.
Sources said both the flats were locked as the inmates were away. The thieves fled from the scene when neighbours raised an alarm and switched on the lights.
Kazipet ACP P Srinivas said the thieves gained entry into the apartment late in the night as per the video footage recorded in the CCTV cameras which were collected by the police. They reportedly stole 1901 grams (nearly 2 kgs.) of gold ornaments.
One of the residents of a flat, and retired professor from NITW N Venkatachalam lodged a complaint with the Kazipet police that 1,895 grams of gold were stolen from his flat, while another flat owner Ramchander had a complaint that two tolas of gold ornaments were stolen from his flat too.
Based on both the complaints, the police have registered spate cases and formed four special police teams to nab the thieves at the earliest.
