Warangal: Kakatiya University (KU) Vice-Chancellor Prof T Ramesh on Wednesday said universities should strive for necessary social reforms and praised the late Bindeshwari Prasad Mandal for his recommendations to provide reservations to Backward Classes (BCs).
“The ultimate goal of the education should be social justice,” Ramesh said. The 103rd birth anniversary of BP Mandal was held at the administrative building on the Kakatiya University (KU) campus by the varsity BC Cell led by Director Dr Panthangi Venkateshwarlu.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Ramesh said that Dr BR Amdedkar, Jyothirao Phule, Savitribhai Phule, Sahu Maharaj, and several others had brought about revolutionary changes in the Indian society with a view to social justice for all. Registrar Prof B Venkatram Reddy said that the students, teachers and other intelligentsia strive to bring about changes in the society by emulating the great social reformers like Ambedkar and Phule.
Former Professor and Chairman BC Political Front K Muralimanohar said that the BCs could get the reservations in the education and employment in the government sector due to recommendations of BP Mandal and added that Mandal had made several other suggestions besides reservations for the uplift of the BCs in the country. Several other faculty members attended the programme.
