Warangal: The Azam Jahi Mills’ colony police arrested Akuthota Shirish, the husband of a corporator, on charges of rape, cheating, and criminal intimidation of a 27-year-old woman in Warangal on Friday. He was produced before the court of Additional First Class Magistrate who sent him to 14 days judicial custody.
The police registered a case against him under 417 (Punishment for cheating), 420 (cheating), 376 (rape), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on September 23 following a complaint lodged by the victim, who is an M.Tech degree holder. In her complaint, she alleged that Shirish cheated her in the name of marriage and also forced her to have sex. He also allegedly forced her to sell her land at Dupakunta and give him the money, a total of Rs 90 lakh, promising to invest in business.
It is alleged that he had also used her gold ornaments and credit cards. Later, she came to know that Shirish was already married and had a daughter. When she started questioning him for two months and requested him to marry her, he not only turned down her plea but even threatened her with dire consequences.
The victim went to Shirish’s house on August 20 this year and urged him to at least return her money. “He along with his father Sudhakar abused me in filthy language, and his father told his son to send a legal notice to me,” she said, adding that later she approached a news channel reporter and another person for mediation. Following this, Shirish returned only her gold ornaments. Subsequently, she approached the police and lodged a complaint against Shirish and his father seeking action against them as per the law. When contacted, Srinivas Muska, Mills’ Colony Inspector, who is the Investigating Officer (IO), said that they had arrested Shirish near Warangal bus station and produced him before a court. He was shifted to Parkal jail following the court’s direction.
