A special unit comprising an ACP, an inspector and a unit doctor under the supervision of a DCP level officer has been set to monitor the well-being of corona affected police personnel
Warangal Urban: Police personnel working in the Warangal police commissionerate limits, who have been successfully enforcing the lockdown aimed at checking the novel coronavirus, are also successful in defeating the coronavirus, thanks to special care taken by the commissioner Dr Tarun Joshi.
While 438 police and their family members were infected by the COVID-19 during the ‘second wave’ that began in March this year, 400 of them recovered already, and only 36 cases are active. Unfortunately, two cops succumbed to COVID-19, according to the official sources.
“Since the election to the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) was held during the second wave, many of our men suffered due to COVID-19. However, we could defeat the virus and join the duties after the quarantine period, thanks to regular monitoring by the commissioner,” said an official.
The elections were a big challenge for the police as the cases were on the rise, but the police chief did not hesitate to run the election successfully. At the same time, the number of corona victims in the police force began to increase day by day as the police had to implement the ECI model code of conduct.
Police commissioner Tarun Joshi said that as many as 3582 police personnel of all ranks had been vaccinated with the first dose registering 94.71 percent of the vaccination among the force under Warangal police commissionerate till June 11, 2021. “2139 of them even got the second dose of the vaccine, while only 200 are yet to be vaccinated,” Joshi added. With a view to check the spread of the virus among the force and their family members by providing immediate treatment to the positive personnel, a special unit comprising an ACP, an inspector and a unit doctor under the supervision of a DCP level officer has been set to monitor the well-being of corona affected police personnel.
A special isolation centre has also been set up under the Warangal Commissionerate with the help of Medical, and Revenue Departments for the use of police personnel who cannot afford to stay home after infected by the COVID-19. The patients at this isolation centre were also offered free food along with the medicine and treatment. “With the vaccination showing results, many family members of the police personnel are now urging the officials to provide them vaccine,” an official said.
