Warangal Urban: Friends on Facebook provided financial assistance of Rs 1.03 lakh to a blood cancer patient following the initiative by philanthropist Renikunta Ramesh of Dharmapuri temple town of Jagtial district.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Ramesh said he had urged his friends on FB to provide succour to leukaemia patient Gangadhari Jytothi (38) of Hanamkonda.
“Jyothi’s family members even sold a piece of land to meet the medical expenditure. Her husband works as a private teacher. Due to the closure of schools, they have been suffering a lot. After learning about the plight of Jyothi, I posted a message on FB seeking donations on April 4. Responding to my call, my NRI friends and friends from Bellary in Karnataka donated money. The money was deposited in the bank account of the patient’s husband by the donors,” he added.
Ramesh said that he could raise more than Rs one crore since 2015 and has helped nearly 85 families. The donor friends are mainly Telugu NRIs residing in the US and Australia.
