Warangal: The Subedari police arrested a non-technical work inspector working with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad, for allegedly cheating people on the pretext of ensuring allotment of double bedroom houses. The arrested was identified as Basani Ramesh of Sairam Apartments, Nakkalagutta in Hanamkonda.

According to Warangal Police Commissioner Dr Tarun Joshi, Ramesh, who worked as the non-technical work inspector in the Housing Board Corporation in Hanamkonda five years ago, is now working in the GHMC. “The accused took Rs 3 lakh from one Burra Sudhakar of New Shyampet on May 3, 2020 promising that he would see that he would be allotted a double bedroom house constructed by the government in Balasamudram locality in Hanamkonda. In a similar manner, he took Rs 2 lakh from Barupati Shankar, and returned Rs 70,000 as Shankar mounted pressure on him as the house allotment was not made,” the CP said and added that the Subedari police had registered a case Cr No 65/2022 Section 417 and 420 of IPC.

“In 2019, the accused also got Rs 5 lakh from Narra Chandrakala in September 2019. But he returned Rs 2 lakh to her later. The Subedari police registered another case Cr No 72/2022 U/Section 417 and 420 IPC, while he took Rs 2 lakh from two others (one lakh each) assuring that they would be allotted the 2BHK house,” the CP said and added that Ramesh, the work inspector, had also cheated Jadala Sadanandam by taking Rs 2 lakh. “He had cheated the people to the tune of Rs 11.30 lakh from the people, and used Rs 8.30 lakh for his personal use,” the CP said and added that the police had nabbed him on Sunday while he was waiting to go to Hyderabad carrying Rs three lakhs in his bag.

It is said that he was also booked cheating the funds of the Housing Board by the Marripeda police in the past. Meanwhile, the CP has appealed to the people not to believe in brokers/middlemen as the allotment of the double bedroom houses would be allotted as per the eligibility by the Revenue Department.
