Warangal: The recovery of gold ornaments worth Rs 13.61 crore, which were stolen from the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Rayaparthy mandal, is likely to take longer as one of the key accused, Sajid Khan, has reportedly escaped to Nepal with the booty.

On November 18, a seven-member gang looted 19 kg of gold ornaments worth Rs 13.61 crore from the SBI branch.

Ten special teams were formed to nab the robbers and within two weeks, the police managed to arrest three members of the gang.

They recovered 2.52 kg of the gold ornaments worth Rs 1.84 crore from the accused.

Recently, the police reportedly managed to arrest the mastermind of the robbery, Mohammad Nawab Hasan, who said his brother Sajid Khan had escaped to Nepal with the money they got after selling the gold ornaments.

The police suspect that the gold ornaments were sold to jewellers in different parts of Mumbai and Badaun in Uttar Pradesh.

It is learnt that Sajid went to Nepal with the money collected from the jewellers via Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Sources say a team was camping in Kakrala, the native village of Sajid in Uttar Pradesh, and collecting information about his movements.

An investigation team was trying to recreate the route used by Sajid from Maharashtra by using technology, sources added.
